QualifiedMortgage.org is an independent publisher of news and information relating to the forthcoming Qualified Mortgage (QM) rule. This website is offered as an educational resource for anyone who wishes to learn more about this industry-defining rule. It is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for QM-related documents, news and resources.

A Brief History

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was signed into law on July 21, 2010. Among other things, this act required the creation of a Qualified Mortgage rule designed to reduce the level of default-related risk within the lending industry.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) was given the task of creating the new rule. CFPB published the finalized QM definition in January of 2013. You can visit the definition page of our website for an overview. The rule is set to take effect in January 2014.

This website, QualifiedMortgage.org, was launched in September 2011. It has been updated continuously since then, to keep up with QM-related developments.
